Open Trip

What Is an Open Trip Phinisi Charter?

An open trip phinisi is a scheduled, shared departure aboard a luxury phinisi yacht where individual travelers, couples, and small groups join a pre-planned voyage alongside fellow adventurers. Unlike a private charter where you hire the entire vessel, open trips operate on fixed dates with set itineraries — making the phinisi experience accessible to travelers who do not want to charter an entire yacht but still desire the luxury liveaboard experience.

Our open trip fleet operates primarily in Komodo National Park with departures from Labuan Bajo every week year-round. Each vessel accommodates 8–20 travelers in shared or private cabin configurations, with a professional captain, experienced guide, and private chef providing the same quality of service as a private charter. Itineraries cover all of Komodo’s iconic highlights — Padar Island, Pink Beach, Komodo dragons, Manta Point, and world-class dive and snorkel sites — in carefully curated 2-night and 3-night formats.

Open trips are ideal for solo travelers seeking like-minded companions, couples looking for a premium experience without the private charter price point, small groups of friends, and adventurous travelers who enjoy meeting new people. Many of our repeat guests started with an open trip before upgrading to a private charter for subsequent voyages — once you experience the phinisi lifestyle, you will want more.

Questions

FAQ — Open Trip Phinisi

Open Trip - Phinisi Charter experience
How do I book an open trip?

Contact us via WhatsApp or email with your preferred dates and number of travelers. We confirm availability and send you a booking link. A 50% deposit secures your spot, with the balance due 14 days before departure. For last-minute bookings (less than 7 days), full payment is required at booking.

Are open trips suitable for solo travelers?

Absolutely — solo travelers are one of our largest open trip demographics. You share a cabin with another solo traveler of the same gender (or upgrade to a private cabin). Many lasting friendships have been formed on our open trips. The communal dining and shared activities create a naturally social atmosphere.

What happens if the trip is cancelled due to weather?

Safety is our top priority. If weather conditions make sailing unsafe, we either reschedule to the next available departure at no additional cost or provide a full refund. Our captains monitor weather continuously and will adjust the itinerary to avoid rough conditions while maximizing your experience. Cancellations due to weather are rare — occurring less than 5% of scheduled departures.

What is the food like on an open trip?

Our onboard chef prepares three freshly cooked meals daily plus afternoon snacks — a mix of Indonesian cuisine and international dishes. Breakfast includes eggs, toast, fresh fruit, and pancakes. Lunch and dinner feature fresh seafood (often caught that day), grilled meats, rice, noodles, vegetables, and tropical desserts. Vegetarian, vegan, and halal options are available with advance notice. Drinking water, tea, and coffee are unlimited.

Can I dive on an open trip?

Yes, diving is available as an optional add-on on most open trips for USD 75–100 per dive, including equipment rental and PADI-certified dive guide. You need a minimum Open Water certification. Some trips (Komodo Dive Special) are specifically designed for divers with 3–4 dives daily. Snorkeling is included on all trips at no extra charge.
